ChatGPT Just Built a Full WordPress Site in 10 Minutes — We Tested It

We had a simple question: how far can AI actually take you when building a WordPress site from scratch? So we ran a real experiment, gave ChatGPT a clear brief, and documented everything that happened.

The prompt was straightforward. We asked ChatGPT to walk us through creating a complete WordPress site for a fictional coaching business, including theme selection, essential plugins, homepage content, and an about page. We wanted to see if someone with minimal technical experience could follow along and end up with something genuinely usable.

Here is what surprised us.

Within the first two minutes, ChatGPT had recommended a clean, modern theme from the WordPress repository, explained exactly why it suited the business type, and provided step-by-step installation instructions. It didn’t just name the theme — it anticipated questions about customization and addressed them before we even asked. That felt genuinely intelligent.

The plugin recommendations were equally impressive. It suggested a lean, purposeful stack: a caching plugin for speed, a form plugin for lead capture, an SEO plugin with configuration guidance, and a security plugin with specific settings to enable. It explained the reasoning behind each choice without overwhelming us with options.

Then came the content. We asked ChatGPT to write the homepage headline, subheadline, a short hero paragraph, and a three-item services section. The copy was sharp, audience-aware, and ready to paste in. The about page followed the same quality. For a first draft, it was genuinely good.

Total time from first prompt to a paste-ready, fully structured site plan: just under ten minutes.

But here is where it gets honest.

ChatGPT cannot click buttons for you. It cannot log into your WordPress dashboard, install anything, or make live changes. Every instruction still required a human to execute it. If you ran into a plugin conflict or a theme setting buried three menus deep, you had to troubleshoot in the real interface while AI guided you through it in text.

We also noticed that its plugin recommendations occasionally referenced slightly outdated versions or features that had since changed. Nothing catastrophic, but a reminder that AI knowledge has a cutoff date and WordPress moves fast.

The content, while solid, needed a human pass to add genuine personality and brand voice. AI gave us the skeleton. The soul still required a person.

So what is the real takeaway?

ChatGPT did not build a WordPress site. It built a roadmap, wrote the content, and compressed hours of research into minutes. That distinction matters. AI is an accelerant, not a replacement. When used well, it eliminates the slow, draining work of starting from zero so you can focus on the decisions that actually require your judgment.

For business owners, marketers, and entrepreneurs who have been putting off building or improving their WordPress presence because it felt overwhelming, this experiment should be encouraging. The barrier just got dramatically lower.

You still need to show up and do the work. AI just makes sure you know exactly what work to do.
